Editor's Note

Assalamu Alaikum,

We are often very good at noticing what’s missing.

The thing we wish we had.
The money we wish we made.
The life we wish we were living.
The problem we wish Allah would remove.

But how often do we stop and notice what’s already there?

The ability to breathe.
A family to come home to.
A body that carries us.
A roof over our heads.
Food on our tables.
The ability to pray.
The chance to make one more dua.
The fact that Allah has given us another day to turn back to Him.

Sometimes, we are so focused on asking Allah for what we want that we forget to thank Him for what we already have.

That is where Shukr (Gratitude) begins.

Shukr is more than saying Alhamdulillah.

It is recognizing the blessing, acknowledging the One who gave it, and using that blessing in a way that pleases Him.

Today’s brew is about gratitude and learning to see just how much Allah has already given us.

Let’s begin.

📖 Quran Reflection

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor].”
Surah Ibrahim (14:7)

This is one of the most powerful promises in the Quran.

Allah does not simply tell us to be grateful. He tells us what gratitude can lead to:

Increase.

But sometimes that increase isn't more money.

It might be more peace.

More barakah in what you already have.

More closeness to Allah.

More contentment in your heart.

More appreciation for the people around you.

Shukr changes the way you see your life. The same home you once complained about becomes a blessing. The same family you sometimes take for granted becomes a blessing. The same ordinary day becomes a blessing.

Because gratitude doesn't necessarily change your circumstances.

It changes the way you see them

🕌 Hadith of the Day

The Prophet () used to offer night prayers till his feet became swollen. Somebody said, to him," "Allah has forgiven you, your faults of the past and those to follow." On that, he said, "Shouldn't I be a thankful slave of Allah)?"

SubhanAllah.

The Prophet ﷺ wasn't worshipping Allah only because he needed something.

He worshipped Allah because Allah had already given him so much.

That is the heart of Shukr.

We often turn to Allah when we need something.

But gratitude teaches us to turn to Allah simply because we recognize how blessed we already are.

💡 Quick Islamic Wisdom

1. Gratitude of the heart
Recognize that every blessing ultimately comes from Allah.

2. Gratitude of the tongue
Say Alhamdulillah and praise Allah for what He has given you.

3. Gratitude through your actions
Use Allah's blessings in ways that please Him.

Your wealth can be a form of Shukr when you give sadaqah.

Your health can be a form of Shukr when you use your body for good.

Your knowledge can be a form of Shukr when you teach someone else.

Your time can be a form of Shukr when you spend it in worship and helping others.

The greatest gratitude is not simply saying Alhamdulillah. It is living Alhamdulillah.

🤲 Dua of the Day

The Quran gives us a beautiful dua asking Allah to help us become grateful:

"My Lord! Inspire me to ˹always˺ be thankful for Your favors which You blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please You. And instill righteousness in my offspring. I truly repent to You, and I truly submit to Your Will”

Surah Al-Ahqaf (46:15)

And there is another beautiful dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ:

“Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.”

O Allah, help me remember You, to be grateful to You, and to worship You in an excellent manner”

— Reported in Sunan Abi Dawud (Hadith 1522)

Notice something powerful about this dua.

We are not simply asking Allah to make us grateful.

We are asking Allah to help us become grateful.

Because even Shukr is a blessing from Allah.

Final Sip ☕

Take a moment today and look around you.

Not at what you wish you had.

Not at what someone else has.

Look at what Allah has already placed in your life.

Your health.

Your family.

Your home.

Your ability to earn.

Your ability to worship.

Your ability to repent.

Your ability to wake up tomorrow and try again.

There are blessings in your life that you have stopped noticing simply because they have become normal.

But normal does not mean insignificant.

Sometimes the greatest blessings are the ones we have become too accustomed to seeing.

So today, say Alhamdulillah—but don't say it on autopilot.

Pause.

Think about what you're thanking Allah for.

And let your heart feel it.

Because the believer doesn't wait until everything is perfect to be grateful.

The believer learns to see the perfection in Allah's blessings—even in an imperfect life.

Until tomorrow,
Stay steadfast on the Straight Path.
