☕ Rizq — Provision 🌙

Assalamu Alaikum, today we will touch upon Rizq

Salary. Food. A home. A customer. An unexpected opportunity.

We spend a lot of our lives thinking about how to get more of these things.

Islam gives us a slightly different way of looking at them.

They are all forms of rizq—provision from Allah.

And here's the interesting part:

Your rizq was written before you ever started chasing it.

So what does that mean for the way we work, earn, and worry about money?

Allah says:

We usually think our employer pays us.

Or our business provides for us.

Or our customers provide for us.

Those are the means.

The Provider is Allah.

Your paycheck may come through a company. Your customer may find you through an advertisement. Your dinner may come from a grocery store.

But behind every means is Ar-Razzaq — The Provider.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

Then the Prophet ﷺ gave an important instruction:

Fear Allah and seek your provision in a good way.

In other words:

Your rizq being written doesn't give you permission to obtain it however you want.

How you earn matters.

For the same reason we eat even though our lifespan is written.

Allah created means through which His decree unfolds.

The Prophet ﷺ worked. The Sahabah traded. Muslims farmed, built businesses, learned skills, and supported their families.

So Islam doesn't teach:

“My rizq is written, so I'll wait for it.”

It teaches:

Work hard. Take the halal means. And know where the result ultimately comes from.

Your responsibility is the effort.

Allah controls the provision.

When we hear rizq, we naturally think about income.

But provision is much broader.

A good spouse is rizq.

Healthy children are rizq.

Useful knowledge is rizq.

Good health is rizq.

A trustworthy friend is rizq.

Time is rizq.

Even having the desire to worship Allah is a form of provision.

Someone can have an enormous bank account and still be poor in many other forms of rizq.

Not everything valuable appears on a balance sheet.

Knowing that Allah provides doesn't mean becoming less ambitious.

It changes what you're willing to sacrifice for ambition.

You don't need to earn through haram because you're afraid halal won't be enough.

You don't need to cheat someone because you think you're competing for a limited piece of provision.

You don't need to destroy yourself comparing your income with someone else's.

Their rizq is theirs.

Yours is yours.

Seek yours in a way that allows you to stand before Allah comfortably.

There's an important balance:

Work as though your effort matters.
Trust Allah knowing the outcome belongs to Him.

Send the application.

Build the business.

Learn the skill.

Ask for the promotion.

Serve the customer well.

Then remember:

The means are in your hands.
The rizq is in Allah's hands.

A beautiful dua for halal provision is:

Allahummak-fini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

“O Allah, suffice me with what You have made halal instead of what You have made haram, and make me independent by Your bounty from everyone besides You.”

— Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi

Notice what we're asking for.

Not simply more.

We're asking Allah for provision that is halal and sufficient.

You should work hard.

You should try to increase your income.

You can build businesses, pursue promotions, invest, and seek financial security.

Islam doesn't require you to abandon ambition.

It asks you to remember Who provides the results.

So pursue your rizq.

Just don't let pursuing it make you disobey the One who provides it.

What's written for you will reach you.

Your job is to make sure you pursue it in a way that pleases Allah.
