Death — Al-Mawt

Assalamu Alaikum,

Our calendars are full of things we can move.

Meetings get rescheduled. Vacation plans get pushed. That dentist appointment somehow keeps getting “forgotten.”

But there’s one appointment already written that none of us can move:

Our meeting with death.

Not exactly light morning, coffee material, but stick with us.

☕ THE MORNING SIP

Islam doesn't talk about death to make life depressing.

It talks about death because remembering the ending changes how you use the middle. Allah has given each of us a limited amount of time. We don't know whether that's another 50 years or far less.

That uncertainty has a way of putting things into perspective. The argument you're still replaying. The grudge you've carried. The prayer you've been postponing. The person you've been meaning to call.

Not everything deserves another tomorrow.

📖 QUR’AN REFLECTION

Allah says:

“Every soul will taste death.”
— Qur'an 3:185

Rich or poor. Famous or unknown. Healthy or sick. Death may be the one appointment where VIP status doesn't get you a later slot.

And Islam reminds us that death isn't the end of our story. It's the transition to what comes next.

🌙 HADITH OF THE DAY

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Remember often the destroyer of pleasures: death.”
— Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi

That might sound gloomy at first. But remembering death can actually simplify life.

You become a little less interested in winning pointless arguments and a little more interested in whether you're living a life worth bringing back to Allah.

Perspective has a funny way of doing that.

🧠 QUICK SIP

Imagine knowing today was your last ordinary day.

Would you pray differently? Forgive someone? Call your parents? Put the phone down?

Say Alhamdulillah a little more sincerely?

You probably wouldn't spend much time worrying about that email marked “URGENT.”

Sometimes remembering death isn't about thinking less about life. It's about finally noticing it.

🤲 DUA OF THE DAY

“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

Wa minhum mai yaqoolu rabbanaaa aatina fid dunyaa hasanatanw wa fil aakhirati hasanatanw wa qinaa azaaban Naar

— Qur'an 2:201

A dua for both sides of the journey.

☕ FINAL SIP

None of us knows when our appointment will arrive.

But we do get today.

Another salah. Another chance to forgive. Another opportunity to do something good. Another morning to say Alhamdulillah.

You can't cancel the appointment. But you can prepare for it.

Until tomorrow,
Stay steadfast on the Straight Path.
